Workshops

Our objective is to create awareness, sensitivity and knowledge of First Nations people in order to recruit, retain and work with them in a positive environment at the worksite.

One: Business Background Series

This workshop will be an Introduction to First Nations History and Culture and will include:

  1. Treaty facts and misconceptions: history of Treaty making, motivation for Treaties, expectations and benefits from Treaties, post-Treaty era.
  2. Introduction to Diversity of Aboriginal peoples in Beliefs, Languages, Traditional Roles, Relationship to Land and Environment and a focus on Contemporary Issues examining Demographics, Self-Government and Socio-Economics.
1 day * $150/person or $2,500 for groups of twenty to thirty
Two: Business Case Economic Disparity and The Need for Change

This workshop will be organized as a follow-up for participants of the Business Case Background Series One module and those persons who need more in-depth knowledge in order to recruit successfully retain and work with First Nations employees at their worksites.  Focus will be on the following components:

  1. First Nations Community Structuring: Governance, Hiring and Worksite Conditions, Land, Housing, Health, and Educational Issues.
  2. First Nations Family Structuring: Traditional and Extended Families Relationships and an examination of Societal and Social Factors which have affected these structures.
1 day * $150/person or $2,500 for groups of twenty to thirty
Three: The Métis Story
Developed to discuss how a distinct Métis culture has emerged from past history and the Métis place in prairie culture today. ½ day * $75/person or $1,300 for groups of twenty to thirty
Four: First Nations Cultural Traditions And Practices
An introduction and explanation of First Nations ceremonies, including the historical background and reasons they were and are practiced today.  This program is taught by an Elder or a Healer from a Saskatchewan First Nation.  It is recommended that this program follow training in Modules One and/or Two. 1 day * $150/person or $2,500 for groups of twenty to thirty
Culture Breaks
During breaks such as mealtimes Wanuskewin offers short “culture breaks” such as an introduction to song and dance or storytelling by an Elder.  These provide an active break and a change of pace for participants who are participating in Modules One to Four. 1 hour $100
Participation In Activities at The Park
Companies and/or groups are invited to participate in ongoing cultural activities at Wanuskewin, e.g. our sweat lodge (by special arrangement) or social activities such as “giveaway dance”. As per
