Aboriginal Awareness In-School Program

This interactive program is a basic introduction to First Nation culture and traditions; including a traditional Aboriginal legend, interactive learning activity and the opportunity for children to take part in a traditional round dance.

The program will be implemented by Wanuskewin Heritage Park staff, provide all the materials used in the program, as well as, a snack for the children. The snack consists of baked bannock and Saskatoon Berry punch.

The In-School Program will run Monday to Friday from January 7 to April 4, 2008.  The program will not run during the week of February 18 - 22, 2008 due to February School Break or the week of March 24 - 28, 2008 due to the Easter Break.  We do welcome kids to come to the Park for other activities we will have planned.

Program Outline:

  • welcome
  • introduction to First Nations oral storytelling tradition
  • storytelling (Aboriginal Story)
  • interactive class activity (creating a story robe)
  • round dance
  • snack
