Wildlife

There are 48 families of birds comprised of 184 species and 14 families of mammals comprised of 37 species.

These birds in relation to the site are either resident, migrant, irregular resident, or uncommon. The categories of bird families present include representatives of most major groups, from marsh and shorebirds to waterfowl and birds of prey. The mammals are known to frequent Wanuskewin. Most groups are associated with the creek valley or the Saskatchewan River shorelines, while remaining minor numbers of species are upland dwellers or occur because of the nearby urban landscape.

Observations have been made about amphibians, reptiles and fish and notes 14 species, however the limited knowledge of these species notes that a good number more of this group are in existence on-site.

Flora

Existing vegetation at Wanuskewin is complex owing to the diversifying effects of topography and past land use. A total of 175 landscape units are recognized on the basis of 48 category combinations (site types). There are numerous species of trees, shrubs, grasses, sedges and herbs at the park that have been identified and interpreted for your viewing pleasure.
